X, Y & Z!

I have been a bit behind on my posting since the end of November - report cards, research proposals, birthdays and Christmas preparations took over my life. But now that it's the holidays, I have a chance to catch up and wrap up the year of the Film26 Project!
I can not believe that it has been a full year already! And I can't believe that I actually made it the whole way through! So without further ado... here is x, y, and z!

W is for Wide-eyed & watching, Windstorm and Worship

Only 3 letters left!! That means there is only 6 weeks left of 2012! Can you believe it? Things are ramping up here as we near the end of the first term of the school year (both at work and in my masters) which means paper writing, readings, plenty of marking and the dreaded report cards.

Still I am trying to get out to shoot some film because I feel like I have exhausted the 10 rolls that I took back in the summer. I knew that the fall would be busy so I tried to overshoot in the summer to give me lots to work with when things got crazy. I just finished a roll and though I usually wait until I have a few finished before I develop them (it saves on the cost), I might just go ahead and get it developed so I have something fresh for the next few letters.

Worship

I was so disappointed when I came across this church and had black & white film loaded because the statue on the top was gold and was shining in the sunshine like it was glowing! I decided to snap away anyway in the hopes that at least some of the light would still show up in black and white. The result isn't nearly as impressive as it was in real life.

I have to admit that I have a serious addiction to taking photos of the peaks of houses, buildings, etc. Anything where I am looking up. I have yet to master these types of shots though.

Please, please my dear American friends to the south - remember that a government is more that just an economy machine. They support the people of the country, they watch out for those who need protecting, they guide what it means to be a citizen of your country. Please vote with your hearts... the world needs more acceptance not more discrimination.

I have a whole stack of draft blog posts just waiting to be published, but since The Film 26 Project is time sensitive, I am giving it priority. We are off to my family's cabin in the Okanogan for a few days. I am so excited to see my nieces and to get some "cabin time".

We pass this little garden fairy door all the time while we are out walking in our neighborhood. I think it is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen. I even knocked on it once, but no one was home.

Since we are leaving tomorrow for a week vacation to Montreal (Yay!), I am getting my Film26 Project done and posted earlier than usual. I am hoping to bring back plenty of rolls of film from the trip and will have enough photos to keep me posting well into the fall (I'm sure!).

Passage Way

 I love the old texture and tones that my Canonet seems to randomly give to some photos (but not all) - though it is a pain to try to focus, it is turning into one of my favourite film cameras.

This seagull found a great resting spot on this well known statue in Stanley Park. I was not the only one stopped to capture this.

Pie! (Strawberry rhubarb if I remember correctly)

At one of the best places in Vancouver for pie: Aphrodite's. Since I was sharing this piece with a friend, they gave us two scoops of ice cream and two cinnamon hearts on the plate. It was as delicious as it looks.

O is for Optical Illusion & Overlooking

I have been lazy about writing posts lately. I thought on summer holidays I would get so many posts done... ones that I have been thinking about for weeks... but alas, no. I have been busy doing other things, out in the sunshine, not in front of the computer. In this city of rain, you learn to get out and enjoy the sunshine while you can... the computer will be there when the sun eventually goes away again.

One of the benefits to this blog of having all this sun is that I have been getting out and taking tons of photos! I have two brand new rolls that I am super excited about! New photos just in time for the letter 'O' in the Film 26 Project.

O is for...

There was a small rectangular mirror hanging in a tree that I passed - pressumably as a decoration, I wanted to try to get a photo of my reflection in the mirror; this is what I captured. It looks almost like 2 photos cut & pasted together doesn't it?

N is for Neighborhood and Need

The Film26 project challenges it's members to get out there and shoot more film - every 2 weeks we have a new letter for inspiration (26 letters in the alphabet, 26 2-week chunks in the year), we submit our photos to a group photo pool on Flickr. There are moderators who sometimes choose to showcase some of the photos on their blog, but mostly it is just an online community where people who all shoot in film can get together, share their photos and support each other. I am really enjoying participating in the project, I have tried out some new and different cameras and films because of it, and it is definitely encouraging me to get out and shoot more film!

I absolutely love our neighborhood with the large trees, gardens and greenery - I could just walk around for days enjoying the scenery and snapping photos.

 I can't believe I am already halfway through the Film26 Project! Which also means that 2012 is half over! Is this not crazy?? Well I am super proud that I have kept up and made it this far, and hopefully with summer vacation now in full swing (yay!) I'll be able to get out and snap more photos.

'I' is for Ikon & Incongruent

I am late on my Film26 project... again. But to my defense, I was waiting on Jeffrey to finish a roll of black & white so that we could get 3 rolls all developed at once in order to save a little on the scanned digital versions (only paying for one disc rather than 2 or more). We really do need to consider investing in a film scanner...

At any rate, 'I' is a super tough letter to shoot. I found it much more difficult to find words that fit than previous letters.

I is for Ikon (Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515/2)

Ikon refers to our Zeiss Ikon Nettar 515/2 which was given to us by a family member over the Christmas holidays. It was our first time getting out to use it because it requires 120mm film (which is more difficult to get your hands on than regular 35mm film), and because we wanted to wait for good lighting conditions for the first run. More on this cool little camera to come.

I is for Incongruent

When we were in Las Vegas, I just couldn't get over the incongruency of the New York "Chrysler Building" surrounded by palm trees. That city just baffles the mind, and the mish-mash of cultural references all crammed together in such a dense area is like a crazy caricature of the world on steroids.
